By popular demand, on the evening of Festival Saturday, a concert by the Thanet Male Voice Choir will take place at the Holy Trinity Church, Broadstairs and will include refreshments during the interval. Ensure bookings are made early to avoid disappointment.

The Festival would not be complete without a Dickensian Bathing Party. In additon to the usual Bathing Belles, Queen Victoria will float into Viking Bay on a boat to be greeted by patriotic Victorian bathers
Other street entertainment has been planned to take place prior to the Grand Parade from the War Memorial to Victoria Gardens at 2.30pm followed by the Opening of the Festival Ceremony and
entertainment at 3pm.

The seriously humorous Village cricket match on Festival Sunday has been arranged to take place at 1.00pm at Victoria Gardens and will include a visit from Broadstairs Queen Victoria and her entourage.
Be prepared for a few surprise interruptions by irrepressible riff-raff. Due to its early start, make sure you bring a picnic!

Morning activiites

The Dickensians will gather at the Bandstand at 10am for coffee followed by a leisurely stroll along the Promenade. They
will be interested in the events taking place in the Events Marquee all week which will include talks on ‘Items Grandmama may have thrown away’- ‘ Etiquette on Victorian Gentlemen’s Attire’- ‘Costume Talks’ and workshops including ‘Trim a Bonnet’ and
‘Bonny Brollies’ with competitions to follow.
There will also be a promotional book launch, featuring the author Michael Flagge. A talk on the concept of his book which specialises in the origins of Punch and Judy and includes
the history of the journey of a specific Punch and Judy presenter will be followed by a book-signing.
The talented school children of Broadstairs will provide superb entertainment at the Bandstand from 10.45am - details of individual schools will be published later
Most mornings, a Broadstairs Historical Walk will take place led by the knowledgeable Peter Shaw from 11am. See the programme and kiosk notice boards for specific details

On Festival Wednesday, those visitors who have been attending for years will be pleased to hear that the Garden Party will be making its appearance again! This year, with its usual format and with few small changes, it will be
held at the Bandstand at 2.30pm and will be presented by the Dickens Fellowship.
Croquet, (a sedate game- enjoyed by the Victorians – who were not averse to a little cheating) duels and melodramas will be enacted throughout the week, times variable but will be programmed! .

The acclaimed Dickens Reading Competition will be held in Holy Trinity Church this year on Thursday evening at 7.30pm. A £50 prize will be awarded to the winner of this unique occasion, heats taking place in Broadstairs
schools. The semi-finals and finals will provide a first-class entertainment for all. Admission free.

A special Sea Sunday by Churches Together will take place on the following Sunday with a Parade, Band, Church Service and a flotilla of ships.
